Funcionality during typing
I cannot start on a new line when I hit . How can I solve this?
Probably a setting is incorrect. Press F6. Select Text input & timing and select the very first radio button ‘ENTER inserts a new line’.
How can I change the number of words in which I can still edit?
Press F6. Select Text input & timing. Change the number of words at ‘Maximum editing range’.
How can I quickly erase all my text?
Press F4. You will get a confirmation question asking if you are sure to clear all text. This cannot be undone and the text will neither be saved! If you do want a clean input area while keeping the text for saving, press Ctrl+F4 or click on the black new-page button in the toolbar just above the input area.
How can I quickly change the position of the caption/subtitle on the presentation?
Using the mouse: Click on the desired position in the blue screen right-hand corner on your screen. The possible positions are: Top, Below top, Bottom, Above bottom and Full screen.
Using the keyboard: Numpad7 (Top), Numpad4 (Below top), Numpad0 (Bottom), Numpad1 (Above bottom) and Numpad plus (Full screen). And also Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, Ctrl+3, Ctrl+4 and Ctrl+5.
How can I quickly erase the caption/subtitle on the presentation?
Using the mouse: Click on the button ‘Clear’ in the dashboard pane on the right on your screen.
Using the keyboard: Press Numpad del. The text will disappear. But the background will stay visible. As soon as typing starts again, the text will appear.
How can I quickly hide the caption/subtitle + background on the presentation?
Using the mouse: Click on the button ‘Hide’ in the dashboard pane on the right on your screen. This is useful when a video is shown that already has captions/subtitles.
Using the keyboard: Press Ctrl+0. The text and the background will disappear.
Note: This needs to be turned on explicitly again!
Presentation
How do I change the font on the presentation?
Press F6. Select Remote appearance. Click on Font.
Now do I change the font size on the presentation?
Press F6. Select Remote appearance. Change the percentage next to the Font. This can also be done directly with the hotkeys Ctrl + and Ctrl -.
How do I change the background color on the presentation?
Press F6. Select Remote appearance. Change the color at ‘Background color’. The transparency of the background can also be adjusted here by changing the percentage. Here you can also indicate if the background should only appear behind the text or in a rectangular block. And whether the background should appear in full width of the screen.
How do I change the transparency of the background on the presentation?
Press F6. Select Remote appearance. Change the value of transparency of the background next to the Background color.
How do I change the number of lines on the presentation?
Press F6. Select Remote appearance. Change the number at ‘Caption height’.
How do I change the margins on the presentation?
Press F6. Select Remote screen. Change the values at Top margin, Left margin, Right margin and Bottom margin.
Second screen and Local Appearance (Typing environment)
How can I show text on a second screen?
Connect the second screen. Press F12. If your display configuration is not yet in Extended Desktop mode, Text on Top will try to arrange this for you. In that case, you must press F12 again.
How do I change the font size on the second screen?
Press F6. Select Local appearance. Change the Font size at ‘Second screen/beamer’.
How do I change the text color on the second screen?
Press F6. Select Local appearance. Change the Text color at ‘Second screen /beamer’.
How do I change the background color on the second screen?
Press F6. Select Local appearance. Change the Background color ‘Second screen /beamer’.
How do I change the margins on the second screen?
Press F6. Select Local appearance. Change values at Top margin, Left margin, Right margin and Bottom margin.
How do I change the local font size?

How do I change the local font color?

How do I change the local background color?
Press F6. Select Local appearance. Change the Background color at ‘Text appearance’.
How do I always show the current time?
Press F6. Select Local appearance. Check ‘Show the time’ at ‘Dashboard panel’.
The translation Service
What is the Translation service?
By using the Translation service, typed text can be directly converted to another language using Google Translate. This way text can be typed in one language and the text on top of the presentation can be shown in another language.
How do I activate the Translate service?
Press F3. To activate the Translate service, a Text on Top User Account needs to be created. To do this, press the button Login/Sign Up. Using Text on Top User Account access you can Register or Login.
How do I indicate at the Translate service in which language I’m typing?
In the toolbar right above the text input area, click on the country flag and select your language. Or press F3. Select the correct language at ‘Typing language’. In order to hide languages that you will never type, click on the …-button to specify the languages you support.
How do I activate a language in the Translate service to which should be translated?
Press F3. Check a channel to activate it. Select if it needs to be translated using Google Translate or Bing Translate. Select the language that should be connected to this language.
Script player, Shortforms & abbreviations
What is the script player?
Using the Script player larger texts (for example songs or speeches) which are available beforehand can be added. These can then be played out in a flexible way.
How do I add a text in the Script player?
Press F7. Click on ‘Maintain’ to show the Script library/rundown manager. Click on ‘New’ to open the Script editor. Text can be loaded through a file by clicking on ‘import text from file’. Text can also directy be typed in the text window, or by copy and paste from another application.
What are Shortforms or Abbreviations?
A shortform is an abbreviation which during typing automatically will be replaced by the longform (the long variant of the word). This can be useful when regularly difficult, long words or names should be typed.
How do I add a shortform/abbreviation?
Press F5. Fill in the shortform in the left field. Press TAB. Fill in the longform or full word in the right text field. Press enter or click on the Add button to add the shortform to the list. It’s also possible to do this quickly while typing, by pressing F9.
How do I change a shortform/abbreviation?
Press F5. Click directly on the shortform or longform to change it in the list. Press enter to confirm the change.
How do I delete a shortform/abbreviation?
Press F5. Click directly on the shortform and press delete or backspace. Press enter to confirm the change.
